ACCOUNTING I FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 9-12

 

Accounting I is a course for students who show an interest in the business field.  Instruction will focus on debit and credit rules, interpretation of accounting records and financial reports, banking and the preparation of special journals and worksheets.

 

ACCOUNTING II FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: Accounting I

Grades: 10-12

 

Accounting II begins with a review of the concepts and procedures covered in Accounting I.  The course covers advanced accounting principles involving account receivables, payables, payroll notes, inventories, worksheets, adjustments and financial statements.

 

 

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

FOR BUSINESS

Prerequisite: Word Processing and Algebra I

Grades: 10-12

 

This course is designed for students who would like to explore the areas of computer science and programming.  The purpose of the course is to provide students with the opportunities to acquire the technical skills needed to create high-quality computer-based solutions to real world problems.  Through the use of various programming languages students will learn to solve problems in business mathematics, and other academic disciplines through a logical and analytical approach to problem solving.  This course provides students with a foundation in both technology driven careers and in the field of software development, computer animation, video games and Web page design, as well as providing the background necessary for advanced studies in computer science and computer careers.

GENERAL BUSINESS FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 9-12

 

This survey course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the business world.  The areas explored in the course of study include:  Accounting & Bookkeeping, Economics & Business Law, Information Technology, Financial and Marketing & Management.  This course provides students with the opportunity to explore the various subject matters and select full year business and technology courses based on their areas of interest.  Seniors enrolled in the course will learn about potential career fields that they may wish to pursue in college.

 

MARKETING I FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 10-12

 

Marketing I introduces students to basic marketing concepts that will increase their knowledge of the marketing mix:  Product, Price, Promotion and Place.  Students will learn about the domestic and global marketplace and how they affect employment as well as business opportunities.  Students are encouraged to join DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), a co-curricular activity that teaches students about leadership while developing their business skills and building self-esteem.  DECA students will have the opportunity of attending Regional, State and International career competitions with other high school DECA organizations, fundraising and performing community service work.  Any student who plans on pursuing a career in business will enjoy this class.  Students will also learn basic business knowledge that will help them in any career.

 

MARKETING II FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: Marketing I

Grades: 11-12

 

Marketing II will increase student knowledge of the basic marketing concepts learned in Marketing I while introducing them to the functions of selling, entrepreneurship and developing a business plan.  Students are encouraged to participate in DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) where the business skills learned in class can be used at various competitive events.  Students planning on pursuing a career in business will find this class very useful.  Students will increase awareness of how marketing is all around us.

 

CAREER EXPLORATION FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 9-12

 

School-to-Careers is designed for students to increase their self-understanding, become more familiar with successful job attitudes and skills, and enhance their knowledge concerning health and safety principles on the job.  Students will also develop a personal career plan.  Emphasis is placed on increasing self-awareness and self-discipline in the skills and behavior required to succeed in the workplace and in life.  This course will provide a foundation for learning about communication skills, decision making, coping and social skills.  Through class activities and participation, students will acquire a better understanding of themselves, how to relate to others and be productive workers.

 

WORD PROCESSING FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 9-12

 

To exist today without an introduction to the world of computers is impossible.  Today more than any period in history, computers are a part of our lives.  This course provides students with an introduction to the world of computers and how they have changed society, as we know it.  Students will learn proper keyboarding technique, comprehensive word processing skills, and receive an introduction to spreadsheets, database development, presentation graphics and Web pages.  Letter and resume writing, as well as research papers using the MLA format will be incorporated into the course.  This course is the prerequisite to higher-level studies in computers.

 

TECHNICAL COMMUNICATIONS FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: Word Processing

Grades: 11-12

 

The focus of the course will be on higher-level word processing through Microsoft Word, efficiency of design and purpose of spreadsheets through Microsoft Excel, and effective presentation skills through Microsoft Power Point.  Students will also focus on database development and implementation through Microsoft Access, expanding productivity through web-page development using Microsoft FrontPage, and exploring personal productivity and time management through the use of Microsoft Outlook.  Projects include integration of all aspects of the Microsoft Office Package in order to solve problems creatively through the use of technology.  This course parallels requirements to pass the Microsoft Office User Specialist Core Certification exams.

 

WEB DEVELOPMENT FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 9-12

 

This course will cover some of the foundations of how to create and design websites.  Students will learn how to make personal and business web pages using Microsoft Office, FrontPage, Web Page Maker and Flash.

 

TELEVISION & FILM PROMOTION FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

Prerequisite: None

Grades: 10-12

 

This course will focus on the television and film industry in the scope of promotions.  This course will analyze and develop television commercials, analyze television programs for promotions and product placement and analyze movie promotions and images.

 

FASHION: DESIGN, FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS

MERCHANDISING & MARKETING

Prerequisite: None

Grades:

 

This course will focus on the Apparel, Accessories and Textile Trade, most often referred to as the Fashion Industry.  This course will explore the business process of fashion, from image analysis and consumer research, to design and showcasing.  Students will examine the roles of fashion and image careers, as well as an in-depth study of the fields of fashion marketing and distribution.  Students will utilize class content of promotion and event planning to help organize and run a DECA fashion show.
