ART I FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: None
Grades: 9-12
Art I is a general studio art course with an emphasis on the elements of art. It offers the student a basic experience in drawing, painting, color, sculpture and printmaking as well as an overview of ideas, processes and concepts. This course is predominantly production oriented. Students are introduced to the concepts of art history, aesthetics and critique as they relate to the studio projects.
ART II FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Art I
Grades: 10-12
This course will expand upon the processes covered in Art I with an emphasis on the principles of design and creativity. Students will be encouraged to explore in greater depth drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking with special considerations for the individuals’ areas of interest. Critique will be stressed as will art history as it applies to particular assignments.
ART III FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Art I & Art II
Grades: 11-12
This course includes a more intensive study of two and three-dimensional design as it applies to both fine art and commercial art. Students will explore a variety of mediums with concentrations in areas of individual interest. This course will have in-depth, long-term assignments that stress qualitative solutions to specific visual and technique problems. Portfolio development for future college art majors will be covered.
STUDIO ART/ART IV FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Art I, Art II and Art III or Independent Study
Grades: 12
The most advanced course which is offered. This course is designed for students intending to become Art majors in college or possibly pursuing art as a career. In-depth exploration of areas of art that are of particular interest to the student as well as exploration of others areas of possible interest. A continuing emphasis on portfolio development. Involvement in specific or prescribed curriculum and activities at the discretion of the instructor.
INDEPENDENT STUDY ART FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Art I and Art II
Grades: 11-12
This is a course for the dedicated art student and future art major who is capable of working independently while in a classroom environment. A variety of assignments will be given with a concentration of them having to do with areas that are of particular interest to that student. Portfolio development will be stressed. Involvement in specific or prescribed curriculum and activities, at the discretion of the instructor.
GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
ART I
Prerequisite: None
Grades: 9-12
Graphic Arts I is an introductory class to the world of Graphic Design. Students will learn to harmonize all elements of design into each and every project. Projects are based on a ladder of learning. Basic skills will be learned and built upon to ensure students reach the goals and explications of the class. Programs introduced are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Image Ready and Adobe Illustrator.
DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
& WEB ANIMATION
Prerequisite: Graphic Communication Arts
Grades: 10-12
This program works with formal design principles in order to produce 2D objects and images. This course will be based on creation of images from scratch. Students will learn vector-based image creation on Adobe Illustrator during the first half of the year. A gradual move towards (Adobe) Macromedia Flash web animation will occur and the student will create his or her own web-based animations.
GRAPHIC DESIGN: FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
PACKAGING & COMPLEX DESIGNS
Prerequisite: None
Grades: 10-12
This program will help students to learn to create a design concept and see its impact on the final product. We will continue to define the hierarchy of information through the ordering of elements into a comprehensive visual unity. Students will work with Adobe InDesign, Adobe GoLive, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator in an effort to create complex design solutions.
BAND FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Knowledge of the rudiments of music and/or a background in instrumental music and/or demonstration of comparable proficiencies. Teacher recommendation is required
Grades: 7-12
Band meets on period a day five days a week. This course is designed for the study and performance of various styles of music for wind and percussion instruments. Students who join the Band are required to attend and participate in all after school practices and performances, i.e. football games, competitions, concerts, graduation, etc. to receive credit. Opportunities are available for students to audition for various other ensembles, which meet outside class such as Jazz Band, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Flute Ensemble and any other Chamber Group that maintains enough student interest. Aside from rehearsals and performances, students improve their individual musicianship through the study of their instruments in a weekly small group lesson pullout program.
CHOIR FULL YEAR 2.5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: None
Grades: 9-12
This course is designed to teach the following: Develop an awareness of the aesthetic value of the musical blend, balance, style and phrasing of the individual voice in its relation to the entire group. Develop an understanding of appropriate audience behavior. Choir is scheduled during the lunch period. Students attend lunch for ½ of the period and Choir for the remaining ½ period.
MUSIC THEORY I FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: None
Grades: 9-12
This course will cover some of the foundations of how to create and design websites. Students will learn how to make personal and business web pages using Microsoft Office, FrontPage, Web Page Maker and Flash.
TELEVISION & FILM PROMOTION FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: None
Grades: 9-12
This course is designed to help develop each student musically through a complete understanding of the rules and principles involved in music composition. The student will also increase the ability to analyze aurally and visually musical sounds and symbols, as well as improving his/her music reading and performance. The student will also be able to develop his/her skills in arranging, harmonizing and improvising music.
MUSIC THEORY II FULL YEAR 5 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Music Theory I
Grades: 9-12
This course is designed to expand the students’ knowledge of what was learned in Music Theory I as well as opening up new musical territories for each student. The student will increase his/her knowledge of chord structure by expanding past the basic triads into seventh, ninth, eleventh and thirteenth chords. The student will also acquire an understanding of instrumental music through the field of orchestration. This course will also help each student prepare for a music career upon graduation from high school.
