Principal's Message for
Feb-March, 2008
Bixby School is always full of activity! On January 22-25th we held on annual Career Awareness Week and it was a huge success. Twenty-eight speakers visited our school to offer classroom visitations and assemblies. Each person spoke about their profession and the need to learn mathematics and reading in order to be successful at whatever job one chooses to do. The PTA also sponsored a fun filled assembly about listening skills.
My lunchtime Study Hall is being well attended by students in grades four through six. Each day many students elect to join me in the Study Hall where they get their homework done, do projects and study for tests together. It is impressive to see how these children are using their time to get ahead in their school work.
We have many things planned for February and March. The Geography Bee is scheduled for Feb. 14th and our Science Fair will be on Feb. 28th. The Science fair is full of interesting and exciting experiments and exhibits. Each year it is more exciting and creative. The PTA will have the BOOK FAIR from Feb. 25-29 and will be open for business the night of the Science Fair. Please come to support the PTA and to purchase good books for your children.
On Feb. 26th at 2:45 is our School Based Planning Team meeting. You are all welcome to attend, to contribute your ideas and ask questions. We welcome everyone!
March 10-14 is the 3rd grade NJASK. Please remember how important good sleep and breakfast is for your children every day of the year and especially when taking tests.
International Week will be celebrated March 24-28. There will be a Parent Workshop on March 17 and International Night is on March 28. We will begin a new celebration for Health Week on March 31 through April 4.
Special Message:
Checking your children’s homework and helping them study for tests is an
important way to help them do well in school and also sends a clear message
about the importance of school to their future. I can’t stress enough how
important it is for you to spend some time each night doing that. Even fifteen
minutes will have a big impact on your children’s performance.
