Sample Activities:
· Students roleplay the influence of peer pressure. Discuss situations in terms of positive peer pressure.
· Students act out bullying situations. Discuss how to deal with bullies.
· Read and discuss stories that deal with group participation, bullying, social interaction, etc. Some books might include: Did You Carry the Flag Today, Charley? by Rebecca Caudill, It's Mine by Leo Lionni, or Molly's Pilgrim by Barbara Cohen.
· Ask students to record groups they belong to. Ask: · Why are they part of the group? · What makes the group work well? · What do you dislike about the group?
· Share and compare answers. Discuss what makes groups work well and why group work is important.
· Read the story: The Turtle and the Hare. How did the hare fail? Brainstorm the obstacles passed by the turtle. Why did the turtle win the race?
· Roleplay and discuss the following situations: · Cutting in line; · How to treat a new student in school or class; · Playing a game; · Using a telephone; and · Selecting TV shows or video games to play.
