· Our Town
· Using the Internet and local resources, research, develop, and present a group presentation that will describe the local public transportation system available to get people to work. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the public transit system including impact on the environment, define local transportation vs. commuter transportation, and investigate personal safety skills needed while traveling on public transit.
· As part of a presentation on local public transportation as a means to get to work, students will interview friends and family about how they get to work, visit and research information at www.NJtransit.com, take a community walk and identify different means of observable transit, visit local bus/train station, research impact of gas prices on public transportation, discuss type of behavior that is appropriate while using public transit, discuss methods of keeping one’s person safe when traveling, and discuss the need to carry identification. Role play appropriate behavior including asking for help and dealing with an emergency situation. Discuss how traffic volume affects our life and discuss ideas for better transportation in the future.
