Sample Activities:
· Current transportation systems consume natural resources and add to pollution and congestion
· After class discussion, students define “job”, “occupation” and “career”. Prepare three columns on the board using those headings. Students brainstorm items under each column.
· Write a Help Wanted ad for a job, an occupation, and a career. Use language that specifically emphasizes the difference between the three.
· Research National Take Your Child to Work Day, held in April. The following is a helpful website: http://www.calendarmine.com/Holidays/American_TakeYourChildtoWorkDay.asp Either accompany a parent to work and report about the experience or research on-line sites that describe various company policies and plans for that day.
· Student discuss with parent or other adult the adult’s work. Discuss whether that is a job, occupation, or career. Student writes a short summary of the discussion.
